As Noble Prize winner, John Nash, stated, if all parties work together with a common goal in mind, their chances of succeeding are much higher than if each party works alone and only looks out for their own self-interest – a concept that can be often overlooked.

Teaming up with others who share a similar target audience or work in the same industry could in fact benefit all parties involved, according to Nash’s theory of equilibrium.

Branding Together
A great way to market a company is by working with other businesses or individuals on a campaign that is helpful for everyone involved. For    instance, Taylor Swift paired up with Diet Coke to help promote her “Red” tour last summer. By doing so, Taylor Swift gained a lot of exposure for her tour on national television networks all over the country and Diet Coke also received a great deal of time on the air as well as being seen with one of the biggest music stars in popular culture today. By coming together and cross promoting their brands, both companies walked away with more exposure and an increase in sales! Ms. Swift was the top selling female artist according to StubHub ticket sales. In the end it was a win-win for both parties. What a great marketing strategy, right? As long as a business aligns with your company’s values and you stand by their services, collaborating with someone else and using cross promotion can be a smart and creative way to market your business.

“If you plant two plants close together, the roots commingle and improve the quality of the soil so that both plants will grow better than if they were separated. One plus one equals three or more.”

– Dr. Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Sharing Audiences
By pairing up with another business to cross promote your brand you are being exposed to a whole new audience. For example, if you work on a product with someone else and you decide to share a picture of your new project with your Facebook fans, by tagging that other company you will be opening yourself up to all of their fans to come check you out and vice versa. Ultimately you will be opening the door for a flood of new potential clients or consumers to find your brand and grow your business.

Limitations of Only Focusing on Yourself
By only focusing on the success of your own brand you are limiting yourself of valuable opportunities with potential new subscribers, leads, and clients and ultimately, sales. I know it can be possible to view the business world as dog eat dog, yet if you let your guard down and find the right people to collaborate with, the possibilities and growth potential are endless!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and the holidays that are quickly approaching, remember that coming together and sharing is in everyone’s best interest. Remove the limitations you are setting for yourself and take a step out of your comfort zone in order to do something beneficial for your business today. Plus, it feels good to give and cross promotion is one of the best ways to give as a businessperson. Do me a favor, think about it and see what kind of ideas pop in your head.
